Luke Norcross Lacrosse Scholarship

Donation protected
This is the story of a young man who took advantage of every opportunity afforded to him. Christopher Lucas “Luke” Norcross, the son of Chris and Carol Norcross was raised with integrity, morals and an understanding that every gain and accomplishment would come through hard work. Luke was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, hiking and kayaking. Luke also loved sports. He began playing baseball, football and lacrosse at a young age. He participated in youth leagues and travel lacrosse teams in the Charlottesville area. His passion to compete at a high level in lacrosse, pushed his drive to seek out and receive coaching from one of the nation’s top goalie coaches. True to what he believed, he was always eager to share the knowledge he gained from these sessions to help other players. In 2011, a grass roots mission was launched to establish lacrosse in Fluvanna County High School as a Varsity and Junior Varsity sport for both boys and girls. Luke and his family were part of a large contingent of families and supportive citizens who worked diligently to help accomplish this.
Luke competed as a goalie for Fluvanna County High as a freshman through his Junior year. He was offered and accepted a scholarship to attend Blue Ridge School in Dyke, Virginia for his senior year. Luke excelled in the classroom and on the field, playing both football and lacrosse for the Barons. In his time at Blue Ridge, Luke embraced the model and loved the campus lifestyle. To further his education, he earned both academic and athletic scholarships to Davis and Elkins College as a member of the upstart Division II lacrosse program. Luke competed all four years as a goalie, giving the program all that he had on and off the field. He felt it was important to help mentor younger players coming into the program. He was a leader, who led by example. His hard work and dedication to the team was respected by his coaches and teammates alike.
Luke graduated in May of 2019 with a B.A. in Criminology, with the intent to serve the public as a police officer. Just as he had done every summer while home on break, Luke intended to volunteer to coach with local travel lacrosse programs. He had also signed on to assist at Fluvanna County High’s lacrosse program. Luke was admitted to the hospital only days after his graduation. He was never a complainer and had attributed his aches and pains to his season as a collegiate goalie. Luke was soon diagnosed with stage three Choriocarcinoma. This is a rare and highly aggressive form of testicular cancer. Just as he did in competition, Luke battled hard. Luke and his family traveled to Indiana to see a leading specialist. It was there that he received the best and most progressive care. Sadly, we lost Luke on February 6, 2020. He was just 22 years old. Moments before his passing, the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office made him an honorary deputy, realizing his dream.
Plain and simple, we want to give back. Luke as well as his parents, attributed Blue Ridge School with fueling the fire to further his education. With the help of the donations made through this site, an endowment fund will be started in Luke’s name at Blue Ridge School. Through this endowment, it will help support a current or incoming student who otherwise would likely miss out on the very same opportunity afforded to Luke. This endowment will also fund a yearly nominal scholarship that will be known as “The Baron’s Reach Scholarship in Honor of Luke Norcross”. This scholarship will be given to a local area graduating lacrosse player who is college bound. Both Blue Ridge School and the local lacrosse community played a huge role in Luke’s love and pursuits, so we wish to honor him in this way. We appreciate your time and generosity in memory of such an outstanding young man.
