Luke's Off-road wheelchair

In June 2016 Luke's family suddenly found themselves in the nightmare situation that no family should find themselves in; one in which they can not make their son/brother/boyfriend better, only time and probably a miracle can do that.
In the meantime they are doing all they can to find medical and practical solutions to help him. This is where we (as friends and family and kind strangers) come in, with a practical solution that will greatly raise the quality of Luke’s life.
Luke, like most 19 year olds, was full of life, optimism, youthful invincibility and anticipation of what his future was going to hold. He was just about to start that journey at Strathclyde University when he had a serious road traffic accident which has left him with a severe traumatic brain injury.
He was in the Intensive Care Unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for 30 days and then on the Neurophysiology ward for a further 6 months. His first 4 months were all about survival and his amazing desire to live. He fought off infection after infection and handled everything thrown at him with the incredible resilience he has always had. He has now moved to a Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre at Murdostoun Castle, where he is stable and happy. At the current time Luke is in a minimally conscious state and unable to communicate, but the family know he’s in there as they can see it in his eyes and he is trying really hard every day to make the connections he needs to gain a consistent response that will allow him to communicate with them. The staff at the rehab centre are super optimistic that he can achieve this.
His parents are currently constructing a fully adapted extension for Luke so that when he leaves the rehab centre he can come home. There will be many pieces of equipment involved in Luke's future care, but one of the most important ones will be a 4x4 electric wheelchair (mybility Four X DL stand up wheelchair) that not only allows him to move around the home, but also allows him to stand (greatly aiding his lungs and digestion which will make him stronger and more resilient to infection) and also means he can go outside into the garden and countryside that surrounds his home. This will be hugely beneficial (not just as he will be able to enjoy fresh air and outdoor sensory stimulation which will aid his on going rehabilitation), but more importantly he will be able to join in family life,(walks with the dog, BBQ’s, watching his mum garden!) and hopefully further down the line go on trips with friends and especially with his girlfriend, Amber to allow them to enjoy some of the things they loved doing together so much.
I will be running a the Edinburgh half Marathon on the 28th of May and The Great Aberdeen run on the 27th August this year.
Although I'm sure I won't be able to raise all £15,000 needed myself, with your help we can give it a really good go and get close to allowing this dream to become a reality.
Luke is an amazing boy and a fighter! Please give whatever you can for this very important cause, anything is extremely appreciated by all of us.
Thank you
