Baby Luke & The Wilson Family
Donation protected
Please join us in supporting the Wilson Family as they traverse the difficult and painful journey of caring for their 4 month old son diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer.
Matt, Lindsay, Rosie, and Luke have a difficult road ahead, and as Matt and Lindsay have already said, they’ve been blown away by the support - both emotional and practical - they’ve received from friends and loved ones. This site is an online place for us to continue to show-up and support the Wilsons in both such ways over the coming weeks and months.
Starting Thursday, Luke will be in the incredible hands of the pediatric ophthalmologic oncology unit at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. While his San Diego physicians and Matt & Lindsay are confident this is the next right step, it will mean frequent travel between SD and LA for appointments and treatment. So much is still very much up in the air about what this will look like on many levels, and we could post stats & research on what this typically looks like financially for families, but ultimately, we just don’t know yet. What we are asking is that you consider donating what you can now to help ease that unknown for them while they hold so many other questions right now. Please consider helping offset the cost of travel, medical expenses, meals, time away from work, etc…
In full transparency, we’re setting the initial fundraising goal at $5,000 since so much is still unknown. It is, unfortunately, likely this will be a drop in the bucket of what they may ultimately need, so we will be updating the goal going forward as needed.

Lindsay:
“Today we are waking up to a very painful new truth. I was hoping all day that yesterday was a dream. It felt like that - cloudy and surreal. Yet here we are this morning with same line up of appointments, same tear-stained cheeks, and our new reality settling in even more than it did yesterday. Luke has cancer. It is called Retinoblastoma, it is rare, and it is in both of his eyes.
This last month has been hard and scary, waiting and not knowing what we were up against with Luke’s vision. His visual impairment has been clear to us for a while and as we waited for our pediatric and ophthalmology visits we settled into the likelihood that Luke would have some serious visual impairments, maybe even blindness, but not cancer.
This next week is going to be brutal. MRI under anesthesia on Tuesday to give doctors a clear shot of what we are looking at with his cancer. Then on Wednesday, we head up to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) for exploratory surgery on Thursday morning. I have no idea what that will entail yet. After surgery, we expect to move into radiation, chemotherapy, or whichever treatment his doctors see fit to help him fight the cancer.
There are two things we are certain of: the first is that God is SO good and present and has already reminded us in more ways then we can count that we are seen, Luke is loved, and we will never ever be alone on this journey. The second is that our community of people is holding us like no other right now. I’m just humbled to my core by the outpouring of love from those around us.
Would you join us in praying for our baby and our family this week? We will do our best to update and send particular requests for prayer and help as they come up for us.”
