Luna's Surgery - Mast Cell Tumor

Hi, my name is Jesse, and this fundraiser is for my dog Luna.

Luna is an energetic 4-year-old, Husky-Lab mix I have had since she was a puppy. We recently found a large lump on her back left leg, close to her groin area. We took her to the veterinarian immediately and had a biopsy done to get more information.

After a week, the biopsy returned, and we found out Luna has cancer. Specifically, she has what's called a Mast Cell Tumor (MCT). A mast cell is a white blood cell found in many body tissues. They most commonly form nodules or masses in the skin, but they can also affect other areas of the body. They can be a raised lump or bump on or just under the skin and may be red, ulcerated, or swollen. While some may be present for many months without growing much, others can appear suddenly and multiply. Sometimes they can increase after months of no change.

From the tumor biopsy, we are unsure what grade it is. We really have no idea how severe the cancer is, which is heartbreaking because of the "unknown" factor. Higher-grade tumors tend to metastasize (spread to other body parts). We have been advised to have this tumor surgically removed by a specialist. And hopefully, after surgery, we will know more about her cancer and illness. However, surgery can be pricey. The surgery/removal could range from $1,500-$5,000 - with so many factors in between. For example, we are unsure if it will ever come back, even after removal. We are not sure if she will need chemotherapy. We have been told that she will require weeks of rest after surgery and a lot of monitoring. All of this is confusing, especially for me with no medical background, but I know many people love this little girl and want her to be here much longer, so I'm asking for help. Her surgery consultation is on December 22nd, and I'm sure I'll have more information then. But this process has to move quickly for her sake of her.

Luna has two sisters, Quinn and Kitsu, who love her so much! Since Luna was a puppy, she has followed me everywhere I go. She is a nervous dog with separation anxiety and takes medication for her nerves. Of course, I'm worried about how she'll handle these next few months. My girlfriend, our families and I will pay as much as possible to help our poor girl. But help from you would be appreciated!
