Lunaria Flower Farm Fire Relief
Donation protected
Lunaria Flower Farm is situated on the California coast in Pescadero, CA on Ohlone-Amah Mutsun land. The farm was created less than one year ago, in the Winter of 2019, to provide high quality flower medicine to the Greater Bay Area community. Lunaria Flower Farm grows over 50 different varieties of flowers and medicinal herbs - including flowers from Traditional Chinese Medicine, Traditional Western Herbalism and fresh and dried ornamentals.
The flowers of the farm are interplanted with my friends Cole, Veronica and Cristobal at Brisa de Año Ranch's fruits and vegetables to create a diversified 8 acre field full of beneficial insects and pollinators, food, flowers and medicine - without this collaboration, the farm would not be possible. Through farming and community building, Lunaria Flower Farm strives to contribute to our collective healing in both the physical and spiritual realms.
The CZU Lightning Complex Fire Impact: On August 16th 2020, an unprecedented thunder and lightning storm hit our home on the coast and began a series of wildfires in the area, becoming the CZU Lightning Complex Fire. We watched as the fires spread through the beloved mountains behind our farm, through our neighbors fields, eventually making its way to our farm and homes. We did everything in our power to prepare and defend against the fire and we were so lucky that our field, our storage and our homes were spared and left in tact. However, much around us did not have the same fate and the loss has still been devastating. The beautiful mountains behind us are desolate, our greenhouse is melted with our tools and plants inside lost, our remaining irrigation system and tools melted and other structures on the property are damaged and lost. Thousands of dollars of essential farm equipment was burned to ash and we cannot operate until these are rebuilt or replaced.
In order to rebuild and continue this farm, we need your support!
Funds are needed for the following supplies:
- generators and fuel (We are currently without electricity and expect to be for the coming weeks, if not months, We will use generators for our homes, to pump water from the well, irrigate our field, and power our cooler)
- irrigation supplies
- farm tools and supplies (weeding, harvesting)
- greenhouse and greenhouse supplies
Any contribution is deeply appreciated and will help greatly to rebuild the farm! We plan to use the funds immediately and would gratefully also accept tool, irrigation, and other supply donations. Our goal is to become operational as quickly as possible - our field is full of medicine and food that we want to give out to our community, especially to those who have also been impacted by the fires.
I started this farm to grow flowers and herbal medicine and to farm in collaboration with friends who are growing fresh fruits and vegetables to provide for our community. This year has been challenging to say the least, on top of the expected growing pains of the first year of running a farm and business, I have also had to adapt the farm to a global pandemic and now wildfires that have ravaged through our community. I feel overwhelmed by the work ahead that is needed to rebuild but I know there will be a way and have immense hope in the resiliency of our farm and community. Thank you so much for being a part of the rebuilding process and helping me navigate these uncertain times.
I have so much gratitude and appreciation for all who have reached out in support, I feel so touched by your generous offers for help and can feel the good energy you have sent our way. Thank you for thinking of us and our farm.
Sending wishes of love, strength and safety to all,
