Lung Transplant for Scott
Donation protected
What started as a simple chest cold has become a new way of life for my husband, Scott Keel. Eleven years ago, we had no idea that his own immune system was destroying his lungs and taking away the ability to live a normal life. This disease has kept him from working full-time for ten years. He has fought hard to combat Pulmonary Fibrosis, a progressive and terminal illness, through powerful medicines, pulmonary rehab and top physicians but this disease has progressed to a point that his heart and other organs are diminishing because of his sickened lungs.
The only treatment that "cures" this disease is a lung transplant. The transplant team at UF Health met recently and decided his time had come to be listed. He is currently in ICU and could be available for a transplant in 2 weeks!
This is a very expensive operation that will require a relocation to Gainesville, Florida for several months. Because there is always a chance of rejection of the new lungs; he will be taking expensive medicines to greatly suppress his immune system. These medicines will cost thousands of dollars, yearly. The cost of relocation and loss of work for Anna, the caregiver, will also cost thousands. Additionally, the operation is not entirely covered by insurance.
Please consider a donation to help give Scott a second chance on the life that Pulmonary Fibrosis took from him. Any donation is greatly appreciated no matter the amount.
If you are unable to donate but want to send cards, words of encouragement, or prayers, please do. Keeping the spirits high during this next stage in Scott's journey is very important.
Thank you for your love and support,
Anna and Scott Keel
