Lux Coffee Company

My name is Noah Burnett and I started Lux Coffee Company a year ago with hopes that I would be able to shine a light on unique and rare coffees from all around the world. I wanted to show people a side of coffee that they hadn’t seen before.
I have roasted 20+ different coffees to date and want to continue teaching and equipping people about how coffee is grown and roasted and how they can better brew it at home. Myself and a couple of good friends that have been a part of Lux from the start are ready to jump into that world head first.
Part Of The Problem
Convenience has very badly hurt the coffee industry on many fronts. From underpaid farmers to overpriced lattes, big box coffee companies continue to damage both the supplier and the consumer.
Coffee culture in most places consists of cheap coffees that are over roasted to mask defects and inconsistencies, paired with a LOT of sugar and milk and little regard for the actual coffee let alone the origin or the farmer.
People tend to have an adversity to black coffee because what they have had has been this cheap, over roasted, and improperly brewed product.
This is where you say something like "oh, so you like the FANCY coffee" but I would challenge that the majority of the coffee that Lux offers is NORMAL coffee. I think that consumers have been trained to believe that big brand coffees are the standard, so that when they see the word "single origin" or "organic" they associate that with some over-the-top, fancy type of thing.
Should responsibly grown coffee be a delicacy?
Should fairly paid farmers be the minority?
Should properly brewed coffee be a rarity?
We don't think so. We think this should be where we start.
How We Want To Be Part Of The Solution
We want Lux Coffee Company to look different. We want to build real relationships with coffee farmers, not just paying them the absolute minimum but rather investing in their farms and their lives. We plan to source coffee responsibly and sustainably.
We also want to offer a product that stands out in the crowd. I want to offer people coffee that they can make in their homes that is better than the coffee they could get from the chain store down the road. I want to equip people with knowledge and resources to understand what they are brewing and why it tastes the way it does.
Expansion
Lux is dedicated to roasting high quality coffees, and we think the next step for us is going to be bringing those coffees to life in a shop setting.
A Lux Coffee Company brick and mortar shop will be a headquarters for roasting and a workshop for experimenting and creating. We will be able to invite people along with us on our coffee journey and will have the space and time to curate and dial in competition level coffees. It will be a place to try new things and push the limits with what coffee can be.
On top of all the nerdy stuff, we want this shop to be a place for people to gather and share life together. A place to highlight local art and talent. A place to build community and invest in others.
This won’t be just another coffee shop. This will be a staple in our town and hopefully in the coffee industry as a whole.
Obviously This Is A Big Undertaking
We want to do this well, prioritizing quality and steering away from mediocrity. That means it's going to cost us; from high quality equipment to a full inventory of single origin green coffee.
$12,500 gets our foot in the door. We can get into a space and slowly start the process of building out a shop. We can order high quality coffees to offer you all and can get some breathing room to focus on making this happen. But there are so many more costs to get this thing fully up and running.
Share the heck out of this thing. We would love to blow our goal out of the water and hit the ground running with this shop.
The cost is a bit out of reach for a group of 20 somethings but we really really believe in this and think you will too. Would you help us make this dream a reality?
Coffee is so much more than a pick-me-up in the morning or the go-to late night study drink.
Coffee is science, let’s experiment.
Coffee is art, let’s create.
