Medical Assistance for George Hughson

Hi, my name is Tina and I'm fundraising for my father George who needs a new heart.

My father has battled heart diease for the past 20 years but more recently things have progressively gotten worse. He has been in and out the hospital for the past three months and we just learned he's is in the final stage of heart failure. A heart transplant is not an option due to his age (72), so at this time his only option is having an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) installed which essentially is a mechanical heart.

As you can imagine this type of surgery comes with a considerable amount of risk, and the recovery process is quite extensive. He will remain at Strong for a minimum of 1 month after the surgery. They did tell us there's a possibility he can be there for up to 3 months and then will need to complete cardiac rehab.

If you know my Dad, then you know he would absolutely hate me asking people to donate money to him but we are truly at a life or death situation. If he doesn't have the surgery, his time with us will be limited and they advised he has just a few more months to live.

If you also know my Dad, then you know he has the biggest heart and does everything for everyone. He takes care of his wife, children, grandchildren, and random strangers. My father has went through life never wanting anythings and always giving back to others, his church, and community.

My Dad also served in the US Army and is Vietnam War veteran, was a truck driver for the US postal service, and a huge Buffalo Bills fan. He even told the Dr's he needs to be home by the time the seasom starts.

My father was hesitant to have this surgery done because he is worried about my mother who is his entire life. They recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary and he has always provided for her. This surgery adds additional financial stress to him and I am trying to eliminate that concern so he can focus on preparing for this surgery which is scheduled to happen the week of 07/31.

We are asking for donations to help cover the cost of medical bills not covered by insurance, as well as travel expenses for his family, especially his wife and children, who will be traveling frequently to be with him.
