Lycia’s Disability Assistance
Donation protected
Hi Everyone,
First and foremost, thank you for checking in on this campaign, and for your continued support for our family’s ever life changing situation.
Backstory - After serious bouts with COVID, RSV, and the flu last winter, Lycia was admitted into the ICU multiple times earlier this year as a result. She has been on large doses of prednisone ever since. Prednisone helps immensely with her respiratory issues, but absolutely diminishes what’s left of her already weakened immune system.
Lycia’s body does not fight infection as well as most people expect their body to naturally fight. Every cut, scratch, or blister she gets has to be closely monitored for infection due to an increased risk of sepsis. Multiple times this year, she has had to take antibiotics to help her with small wounds that got out of control.
As I type this, she is getting a root canal for an infected cracked tooth (another side effect of her taking a lot of prednisone… brittle teeth, bones, etc.). Earlier this week, her primary doctor was concerned that she had gone septic due to said infection, and we ended up spending Monday night in the ER. After a round of IV antibiotics, we were released early Tuesday morning, but with extreme caution.
In the back of our minds, we’ve known all year that her ending up on disability was a possible outcome. Thankfully she was able to collect a time-loss check from her previous employer (her doctor would not release her back to care giving, thus she had to resign). Those checks unfortunately stopped at the end of June.
In an effort to start replacing her lost income, with the help of both sides of our family, we started ramping up her Lumpia business. This was not long after she was discharged from her most recent hospital stay. By the grace of God, we found some success at big events this summer. Unfortunately, due to Lycia’s ongoing health issues, we’ve decided that efforts to sustain that success would be too much for her body to effectively handle. The ER visit this week reaffirmed our decision.
Moving forward, we are asking for financial help as we move towards getting her disability benefits approved. Anyone who has dealt with these governing bodies, knows how unreasonably long these things can take to get approved. At this point, we are hoping for it to take no longer than 5 months, so we are asking for roughly 4.5 months of help since the “ball” is already rolling.
In the meantime, Lycia will continue serving up Lumpia in a modified capacity (no all day or multi-day events). She is also available to teach piano and voice, as long as her health stays relatively under control. If you would like to support us by ordering Lumpia instead of donating to the gofundme, please do not hesitate to reach out to either one of us.
Additionally, I’ve updated our North Shore Creative website with recent photos I’ve taken, and I am now accepting online orders for prints.
If you are unable to contribute financially, but would like to support the cause, please feel free to share our campaign anywhere you like.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to check in on our family. We simply can’t do it without our tribe.
In Love and Light,
Brady, Lycia, and Kai
