Lyle's battle with brain cancer

In May of 2021, Gina and Dave Prescott were given the unimaginable news that their 5 year old son, Lyle, had High Grade Glioma, a rare and aggressive cancer that would soon end his young life. Thankfully, they sought a second opinion at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and began treatment with a team of oncologists that are the leading experts in Lyle’s type of cancer. Lyle underwent surgery to remove the initial tumor that was found on his brain stem, then underwent radiation and chemotherapy that miraculously rid his body of the cancer. The two years that have passed since Lyle’s initial grim diagnosis have been filled with further medical diagnoses, continual testing, radiation for new tumors, and chemotherapy that racked Lyle’s young and fragile body. Gina and Dave have been a true testament of faith as they have bravely faced the challenges of Lyle’s complex medical needs, while trying to live a normal family life and make memories with their boys, Lyle and Judd.

To say that the Prescott family has been on a rollercoaster ride for the past two years does not do justice to the trials they have endured. There have been periods where Lyle has been cancer free and enjoyed life as a young boy playing hockey and flag football as well as taking wonderful trips with his family. Sadly, Lyle’s health has taken another turn for the worse as his cancer has returned and spread to various areas in his body. Gina and Dave are again facing an uncertain future for their family. If you know Gina and Dave, you know they are very hard-working people that would lend a hand to anyone and not ask for help in return. They have spent the last two years making frequent trips to Philadelphia as well as shouldering the extra financial strains and time off work that come from having a sick child. Lyle’s current development of tumors leaves the family facing a difficult and uncertain future as they look to a potential clinical trial that would require repeated travel out of state or face other large financial burdens.
