Lyme Disease can suck eggs.

A little over a week ago Mason was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Prior to our diagnosis he’d been in steady decline - lethargic, refusing food and water, vomiting, and significant weight loss. It was scary but after extensive testing we finally found the cause. He was/is on antibiotics to treat the Lyme but apparently we didn’t catch it quickly enough.
We had a rough weekend. Saturday he had a couple of really scary episodes, Sunday was no better and we could tell he was in lot of pain. We spent Sunday at the emergency vet running more tests and trying to understand where we’re at and what our options are. Right now Mason is in kidney failure. The lyme disease has progressed into kidney nephritis. In his current condition, he’s too sick for the meds to treat the Lyme and consequently too sick to get better. He’s spending the next couple of days in the dogspital receiving aggressive treatment in an effort to reverse the kidney damage and restore him to functional levels that will allow him to heal.
Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee that this treatment will work. And if it doesn’t, I have some really difficult decisions to make. But we’re not there yet! And the doc says our chances are good. I couldn’t live with myself if we didn’t try. The least I can do is give him one more chance. He’s a tough dog, and I believe in him.
Treatment is incredibly expensive. This $5,000 ask includes what I’ve already spent, and a conservative estimate for expenses still ahead of us. Feeling funny about leaning on our community again but that’s where we’re at.
No pressure, I understand that this is a lot to ask. However, if you feel compelled to give, we will be forever grateful. Anything helps.
