Lynley’s Seizure Response Dog

Hello, we are Mark and Larissa. We are raising money to fund a seizure response dog for our daughter Lynley. Lynley was adopted through foster care, placed with us at 8 weeks old. She did not have use of her left side. Intensive therapy starting at 12 weeks old continues today. She was found to have a genetic condition 17 q 12 micro duplication, partial agenosis of the corpus callosum and complex partial seizures. All of these diagnoses come with a plethora of other conditions.

Her seizures are tough to identify as she does not have a typical seizure. Her’s used to present as “staring spells” which were easy to notice while awake and impossible while asleep. Now she experiences a frontal headache, lethargy, weakness, unable to sit up and loss of appetite. The headache, weakness could be other illness related and we try not to use her Valium too often as they only have a max she can use per month. After 3 hours she has the latter symptoms and after Valium is administered within 10 minutes she is resolved, not recognizing where she is as she does not recall the past 3 hours.

This is also scary at night as traditional seizure monitoring devices are inconsistent with her type of activity. Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy Syndrome is very real.

A seizure response dog is the only way to 100% be alerted when she has increased activity and enable us to administer her medication in a timely manner.
