Lynn McLean Multiple Myeloma Treatment Fund
Donation protected
Lynn will never forget Oct 26, 2021 the day she heard the news that a routine sinus X-ray found cancer in her skull. She assumed her fatigue, headaches and pain were just part of being overextended and aging.
Many tests and a bone marrow biopsy later revealed multiple myeloma, an incurable bone marrow cancer. It is a full body disease that painfully destroys bones, kidneys, the blood, immune system and more.
Working in healthcare for 35 years, already with her own health challenges, she has always been a devoted caregiver and strong advocate for others with a kind generous heart, touching many lives. At home she supports her extended family facing their chronic health conditions, also losing some to cancer far too soon. In her spare time she shares her love for all things outdoors, animals and music. Lynn has worked so hard for others so switching roles and asking for help is not easy.
Treatment for the first round is a gruelling long haul with extensive courses of chemotherapy, stem cell transplant, transfusions, dodging bleeding and life threatening infections.
It is then 3 -6 months to regain strength while hiding from infection, then one year for the stem cells to create a mature bone marrow and then hopefully years more of maintenance, treating infections or cancer relapse.
Fortunately, there has been tremendous progress with research into new chemotherapy for multiple myeloma. However the best new chemotherapy drugs are not covered by AHC. To get the very best chance will cost $140,000.
The chance of maybe living with, instead of dying from, this dreadful cancer gives her hope that she can again live productively and continue to care for her family. Maybe some day research will find a cure.
Upgrading to the better treatment is essential, not optional.
Thank you for helping us achieve her goal.
