Tragedy strikes when you least expect it!
A little about Lynn. She grew up on Vancouver Island by Duncan/Lake Cowichan and now resides in Victoria. She has some very caring friends who love her dearly.
While on a girls' weekend away in Los Angeles on Thursday June 13th 2019, Lynn, a vibrant, lovely, generous, and kind soul was recently struck AND run over not only ONCE by a car driven by a stranger but then, in the panic that ensued, backed up over a SECOND TIME!
Lynn is currently in critical condition in great care at UCLA Ronald Reagan Hospital with her loving sister, Mother and brother-in-law at her side for the time being.
She is in need of everyone's prayers for a speedy and healthy recovery!!!
Even though Lynn has travel insurance, everyone that knows her is concerned about the invariable limitations of her coverage. Also, one never considers the collateral costs that come up for loved ones that travel last minute to be at her hospital bedside to deal with both the emotional & financial trauma. Often, the costs seem insurmountable.
The current GOAL is set at $125,000 CAN to assist her family in dealing with the immediate(as of June 15, 2019) and medium term needs for her to travel the road to recovery with minimal financial stress.
Here is Lynn’s current condition:
* Collapsed lungs
* Multiple broken ribs
* Multiple broken points in her collar bone
* Broken arm
* Internal bleeding
* Currently on a ventilator to assist to control her breathing
Of course, the overall final needs may very much be over this goal simply because of all the unknown healthcare expenses & travel expenses.
A portion of these funds will be needed once the current credit card bills start coming due in the next 30 days. However, it is expected the ultimate need is to ensure funds are available to provide her the best care possible whether it is in LA or back in Canada for a full recovery.
As of July 8, 2019: The funds raised are being used by Lynn to pay for her family's unexpected travel costs incurred from the day right after her accident and for the foreseeable future for at least 180 days. Although she is recovering well at Victoria General Hospital, her doctor who visited yesterday morning while I was there at her bedside, mentioned best case scenario for her to be released to the care of her sister sometime next week. Her sister lives about 40 minutes up Island in the community of Cowichan Bay. Her sister has set up a spare room in her place and will provide round the clock care for Lynn to ensure Lynn continues to exercise, eat well, and rest. Also, her sister and/or her brother in law, will be the primary caregivers to her to get her to and from her many anticipated healthcare appointments for post hospital care and monitoring. They are both taking the summer off to be with Lynn. Thank you all for the funds raised as they will assist to pay for her ongoing care (equipment she may need, special diet requirements, etc) ; living expenses (as she still has to pay all of her normal overhead costs even though she will not be staying at her apartment in Victoria for the foreseeable future); ongoing travel expenses as we all anticipate she will need to travel back to California whenever the anticipated legal battle starts with the insurance company of the person who drove over Lynn twice. Hopefully they will not fight the case however if they do, they will surely balk at having to pay for ANY medical expenses related to the incident. Lynn had to sign a waiver with UCLA Ronal Reagan Hospital that stated if that insurance company does not pay, then Lynn WILL BE 100% responsible for her almost 2 week stay at UCLA Ronald Reagan Hospital AND her Medevac transport from LA back to Victoria last week. Although we do not know her final billing from UCLA Ronald Reagan, we anticipate that bill will easily top $500,000 USD! Thankfully, she has ICBC coverage for a small portion and she had BCAA travel insurance as well! The funds raised will benefit Lynn 100%. Thank you all again for your continued support: financially, warm thoughts and with continued prayers for Lynn's full & complete recovery! #Lynnstrong.
