This is our Mom. She’s been diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma. More on that in a minute.

For everyone who knows our Mom, you already know everything we are about to share about her. For those who don’t know her, allow us to introduce her to you.

  • Mom is one of the most giving people you will ever meet. As her kids, we have watched her go without for years so that her family and the extended family of God could be blessed.
  • Mom’s personality and love language is serving. She rarely sits during family gatherings, making herself busy with cooking, baking, cleaning, and serving. For every church and community she’s ever been a part of, she’s made hundreds of loaves of bread and thousands of cookies. Not to mention all the pies she’s baked. What we wouldn’t give for one more pie from our Mom.
  • Mom’s secret strength isn’t a secret at all. Her faith is deep as the roots of the redwood tree, reminding us of the righteous from Psalms 1, who is like a tree planted by rivers of water. For every faith community that Mom has been a part of, she has been an encourager, a prayer warrior, a confidante, and a fellow worshipper of Jesus Christ. She is the ideal balance between Martha and Mary, sitting at the feet of Jesus privately and personally, and serving at every chance she gets.

Which is why we are sharing this now. So many of you have reached out asking simply, how can we help? You have shared stories of a time when our Mom gave, prayed, baked, cooked, cleaned, or shared her gift of serving with you. She has always greeted the world with a smile, and this is our opportunity for her world to smile back.

Glioblastomas (also called GBM) are malignant (cancerous) grade 4 tumors. Surgery was the first step in her treatment to remove the tumor, which happened Monday, January 9th. Hundreds of you prayed and shared words of comfort, and we are happy to report that the surgery was considered to be a success. Her team of neurosurgeons reviewed the post-surgery MRI with our family and they see no visible evidence of the tumor left. We thank God for this. However, this is how Glioblastomas (GBMs) work. GBMs are diffuse and have finger-like tentacles that infiltrate the brain, which makes this cancer very difficult to remove completely. Radiation and chemotherapy are step 2, which will be used to slow the growth of residual cancer after surgery. Due to the aggressiveness of the GBM, we are preparing for a very aggressive treatment. Oncology is currently scheduling Mom to start chemo and radiation in about 4 weeks, allowing time for healing after her craniotomy.

During this process for our Mom, who has spent her whole life giving sacrificially to others, we are wanting to step in and help, and we know that many of you are as well. We are attempting to:

* Help relieve the financial stress and burden that comes with the mountains of medical bills she will be incurring from surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, consultation, and physical therapy.
* Help provide a higher standard of comfort when she is home than she would give herself.
* Help provide for future medical and personal costs (currently, our Mom does not have supplemental or life insurance).

So many of you have asked how to help and we can’t say thank you enough in advance for all of the love, support, prayer, and care. We will keep everyone updated. Our Mom has no idea that we are setting this up for her, and it warms our hearts to know that we will be able to share this and all the love that everyone has shown with her as she continues her journey fighting this cancer.
