Lynne & Tasha -v- Great North Run 2022 – Round 2

In 2018 I had planned to do the Great North Run but, after an 11-year remission, discovered my Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma had returned for the fifth time and I embarked on a six-month course of Chemo. Ever the optimist I deferred my place and booked on to the 2019 event which was a great success raising over £4000 for Bloodwise.

Since completing my treatment in 2019 I have continued maintenance Chemo which finished in July 2022 and, having said “never again” after the 2019 event, have decided to run the Great North again.

This time I’m running with my best friend since school, Tasha, and we are hoping to raise money for a charitable foundation close to my heart, the Harry Bennett Foundation - HB9.

Everyone has a back story and Tasha is no exception. In 2021 she was diagnosed with Skin Cancer and has endured lengthy and painful treatment over the last 12 months but instead of bringing her to her knees she has risen to this not insignificant challenge. Although she doesn’t believe it Tasha is a huge inspiration to those around her.

HARRY BENNETT FOUNDATION – HB9

The foundation was set up in the memory of Harry Bennett who sadly passed away in 2020, at the age of 16, from sepsis - only a week after being diagnosed with Leukaemia. Harry was sports mad and played Football, Rugby and many other sports to a high level, the foundations goal is to enable everyone to have access to the life-enhancing benefits provided by sport. Whether it’s individuals or teams, whether it’s by taking part or watching – they want everyone to have the help and support they need to fully experience the physical and mental benefits of sport. In these tough times being able to help people participate is even more important.

My son, Mac, enjoyed several seasons alongside Harry at Bromsgrove Rugby Club and it’s a true honour to support Andy, Yvette and Charlotte through the amazing foundation they have set up.

Our aim is to raise as much money as possible for the HB9 Foundation. We are doing our bit to smash the run and all we ask is that you donate whatever you can afford to help us raise as much as possible for this great cause.
