To know and love Lynn & Ernie Matthews is to be blessed with amazing, lifelong friends. We have been lucky to call them our friends for many, many years. During that time, we’ve witnessed a loving, hardworking couple who raised five awesome kids and work hard every day to make ends meet and to care for those around them. Lynn & Ernie are both so generous, kind and absolutely hilarious. I’ll never forget the year we stepped out of our comfort zone and invited their family to spend Thanksgiving with us because they were new to the neighborhood and our ward at Church. All these years later, I feel so grateful we did that because we instantly became best friends and their family has been a blessing to ours in so many ways. This family deserves nothing but the best in every single way!
Sometimes, life gets in the way though, and has other plans. In October, Ernie was diagnosed with Stage 4 Throat Cancer. He’s already undergone surgery to remove a tumor the size of a fist from his neck. They had to remove both his jugular vein and some muscle from one side of his neck. He’s currently recovering from surgery, but still has a long, arduous journey ahead. As you can imagine, aside from the emotional stress of such a diagnosis, the financial implications of something like this are absolutely devastating. Aside from the very long and extremely painful fight that Ernie faces, Lynn is now also facing being the sole provider for this amazing family – physically and financially.
Lynn has been a huge supporter of the Susan G Komen Foundation for many years, actively participating in events to raise money and awareness in the hopes that someday Breast Cancer will be a thing of the past. She donates so much of her time and energy to help give women who are fighting it a better chance of survival. It is my honor and privilege to now reciprocate in the best way that I know how. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for this amazing family, and I hope that you will help us raise money to ease their financial burden during their time of great need.
The next step for Ernie will be about 35 rounds of radiation, plus chemotherapy to remove the source of the cancer. They do have insurance, which will help, but their deductible between this year and next will reach $15,000! That’s why we are now asking that you’ll come in and help in any way you can. Even the smallest of donations will add up quickly and help this incredible family. I can’t think of a couple more deserving of your prayers, love and assistance. Lynn has put so much good karma out into the world, and we are asking you to help us send it back to her in her family’s time of need.
Please join us in our campaign to help The Matthews family by donating anything you can and by sharing the campaign with anyone and everyone you know. Our goal is $15,000 and every penny will go directly to Lynn & Ernie Matthews to aid in their battle against this awful disease.
