Lynn's Healing Fund: Rare Condition Costs
Donation protected
Hello!
As you may be aware, I got sick on December 28th, and went to the ER on New Year's Day, before being admitted. The official diagnosis was a double splenic infarction, meaning I had two blood clots that got stuck in my spleen, cutting off blood flow, and killing two portions of the organ. I guess this is extremely rare, as my hematologist said he had never seen a case like mine, and he has been practicing medicine for 40 years.
After numerous visits to different doctors and specialists, the medical bills have become overwhelming.
To date, I am close to $7,000 in debt to my Emory, and I still have more bloodwork and tests to be done. I have had multiple CT scans, multiple ultrasounds, and multiple rounds of blood work, on top of the 3-day hospital stay.
It seems the blood clots were caused by an arrhythmia, which was itself caused by hyperthyroidism. The doctors still need to test what caused that condition, and believe it is likely to have been an autoimmune disorder called Graves Disease. It's still almost two weeks before I see the endocrinologist, at which point I will find out if surgery is required to remove my thyroid. At that point, I will either be allowed to return to work, or advised to extend my medical leave. I am currently wearing a 24/7 heart monitor for a month, and the cardiologist would like to insert a loop recorder heart monitor implant into my chest, once this external one is removed.
As it stands, money is getting low. I am on doctor ordered bed rest, because--with the hyperthyroidism-- my natural heartbeat is dangerously fast, and standard activities that raise heart rate could cause another arrhythmia, which could potentially cause more blood clots. I'm already amazingly lucky that the clots I had stopped in my spleen, and not in my brain causing a stroke, which is significantly more common.
Once I start work again, it will be at my standard pay rate, which will not be enough to save money to cover these medical costs. We need money to help cover these medical bills, as well as to help with rent, and utilities, on top of my car tax needing to be paid.
Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated. I love you all.
