Lynn’s Pulmonary Fibrosis Battle

Our Dad, Lynn Smith, who grew up in Finch, Ontario and has lived in St Albert the past 40 years, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2022. This awful terminal disease causes scarring of the lungs, slowly progresses and lowers your capacity to breathe.

Up until recently he continued to work and live a casual life enjoying time with family, playing a round of golf here and there, witnessing a daughter get married and most importantly watching his grand babies grow up.

This past August, he had a setback and spent an entire two weeks in hospital battling pneumonia as well as living with pulmonary fibrosis. His lung capacity has since decreased and things became serious.

Since his discharge from hospital, they have expedited the process to become a candidate for a lung transplant, which has required multiple appointments per week and trips to Toronto.

Now fully dependant of oxygen and unable to complete simple tasks, our families have had their lives turned upside down. Although our parents have shown extreme strength and resilience during this critical time in our Dad’s life, they are in need of support.

In the next week, they will be packing their belongings and moving to Toronto in order for our Dad to complete his testing to hopefully get on the lung transplant list. Once he’s on the transplant list, they will be waiting until he receives THE call and will be remaining there several months after. This call that will allow him to breathe again and will allow us to have more time with him.

We have no idea how long the wait will be or how long they will be living there but in the mean time we would love to support them and allow them some financial assistance.

We are setting up this GoFundMe page for them, to ease some stress during these hard times and added expenses (rent alone in Toronto is 6500$ monthly near hospital). We appreciate all messages and well wishes navigating this next chapter in our lives.
