Lyric's Heart Fund
Donation protected
There’s no easy way to start this story so here it goes. Shortly after our 4th month of pregnancy, myself & my husband started a new chapter in our lives that we never expected. We were informed that our unborn baby Lyric has 3 birth defects: One involves her umbilical cord & the other two are two separate heart defects:
-TCVD (Two Cord Vessel Defect): Umbilical cords are suppose to have two arteries & one vein. Lyric’s only has one artery versus two. This affects her growth while in the womb causing a growth delay.
-VSD (Ventricular Septum Defect): Our hearts are separated into two ventricles. The left side circulates oxygenated blood leading to the Pulmonary Artery to support our lungs & the right side circulates solid blood leading to the Aorta Artery to support the entire body. This defect has caused a very large hole which is in the form of a tunnel connecting the two ventricles which will wrongfully allow the oxygenated blood & solid blood to mix.
-TGA (Trans Position of the Great Arteries): As mentioned above, our hearts have two main Arteries, the Pulmonary & the Aorta. This defect has caused Lyric’s two main arteries to be accidentally switched & are connected to the wrong ventricles.
With this being said, while Lyric is in the womb she is ok. It is once she is born & starts to breath air that she will be in danger, therefore after her birth Lyric will require an open heart surgery where the two vital areas of her heart mentioned above will be corrected. We have set up a go fund me account because although I work for Kaiser & my medical coverage is with them, they have referred us to UCSF due to her vital circumstances, as UCSF specializes in Pediatric Cardiology. I have decent medical coverage, however we’d like to be prepared for additional expenses. Below I have listed the 3 main things that donations to our “GoFundMe” will assist us with. Any support you are able to contribute is greatly appreciated, however above all please, please, please pray! Pray for our baby Lyric to 1st & foremost make it to full term, pray that her growth delay doesn’t decline any further than it already has, pray that my delivery goes uncomplicated, pray that God guides the hands of her surgeon, pray that she survives her open heart surgery, pray that she has a speedy recovery & lastly please pray for our family!
Your loving donations will assist us with the following:
1: Commuting expenses to visit her. We don’t qualify for UCSF’s onsite housing therefore we will most likely take turns staying the night with her but in general we will have major daily commuting expenses for gas, bridge toll & UCSF’s expensive daily parking which is still above $20 a day even after deducting the discount for parents of CHD patients.
2: Although FMLA is 12 weeks, SDI (State Disability) only pays for 6 of those 12 weeks of maternity leave. I won’t have any PTO to rely on outside of those 6 weeks because I’ve exhausted all of my PTO with countless doctor appointments seeing multiple specialist, ultrasound techs & doctors at both Kaiser & UCSF. If all goes well, Lyric will be hospitalized for a minimum of 1-3 months. If there are complications she will remain there longer. Donations can provide me the blessing to care for her, nurse her & be by her side for longer than 6 weeks w/o falling behind on mortgage, utilities or any other household expenses.
3: The unexpected future medical expenses that come along with heart problems. Potential additional surgeries, physical therapy, unexpected complications, etc.
We thank everyone in advance for any contribution you are able to give & more importantly we thank you for any prayer you send up above for our sweet baby girl. Sincerely, the Torres Family.
