2024 miles in 2024

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ian. I have taken part in many fundraisers over the years.

I recently did Doddie aid and managed todo over 350 miles in the 5 week period,
This was a massive achievement in itself and one many would say was unachievable for a man who likes food a bit too much and for an individual the size and weight iam presently.

I thought to myself why not try n push the limits for the whole of 2024 and raise funds for charity while doing so. Either walking, cycling, swimming, rowing, running, I will do 2024 miles throughout the year, which is a huge challenge but one I intend to complete whilst getting fitter and healthier myself.

Any funds raised will be split between the following 4 charities -

Doddie aid has helped raise awareness of Motor Neuron Disease through My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. Doddie Weir was an inspirational player and his battling presence was on show while playing rugby and also as he tackled MND with courage and determination.  MND has affected people I know including a close family friend when I was a youngster, and that hit home then and still resonates with me now, and more recently my great aunt who both unfortunately succumbed to the illness which still has to find a cure.  Any funds I raise will help in the fight against this illness.

Macmillan Cancer Support Shetland provide invaluable support to those battling the illness and their families.  Again I have many family and friends who have been diagnosed with cancer and have received support from the Macmillan nurses as they progressed through their treatment. Having local facilities and organisations to help any individuals or families going through this treatment is much needed.

Scottish Charity Air Ambulance.
My son will be joining me on the walk, he wanted to join and raise funds for the charity. His mother and step father were grateful of the air ambulance when their son, my son's brother, was born with health issues.
This charity is another vital part of Shetlands health support network and is essential if the medical support is not available in our hospital.

The last charity for this fundraiser will be the Sandwick Youth and Community Centre. A non profit organisation that rely on funds to run there sessions throughout the year, from events they host to youth clubs, football training, birthday parties etc. My son got a wider achievement award for his help during a Xmas fayre they ran last year, which was well run and had a real community feel about it.

We will be joined by my partner and her daughter. The 3 of them plan to walk 2024 miles between them. So a total of 4048 for the year for us 4. I've set a target of £1012 fitting in with the mileage. We will be hosting a Sunday teas and maybe a few other fundraisers through the year that I will update as and when. I will update our progress on a regular basis.
My partner's mileage for this year so far is 218.88 miles and the bairns will update from now.

My total at this point(29/02/2024) is 541.21 miles.

Thanks for any donations you feel you can make. I know these will spur me/us on when it's raining and were pounding the roads. And thank u for reading my story.
