Bangladesh Flood Mitigation Initiative by EMA

Over 50 people have died, many of them young children, in one of the worst floods north-east Bangladesh has seen in more than a century. More than four and a half million people have been left stranded. This is the third time this year that this region is flooded. Now, the stories of misery are everywhere in Sylhet division in Bangladesh.

The flood-affected region and millions of families need long-term support for rehabilitation as well as instantaneous aid – food, drinking water, healthcare, medication, and habitat for both humans and their live stocks to rebuild their life.

A volunteer team of Erasmus Students and Alumni has taken an initiative to stand by the flood-affected people. We will request everyone to come forward and take part in this altruistic work.

এই জুন মাসে বাংলাদেশের উত্তর পূর্বাঞ্চলের সিলেট বিভাগে আকস্মিক বন্যায় পঞ্চাশ জনেরও বেশী মানুষ নিহত হয়েছে, যাঁদের মধ্যে অধিকাংশই শিশু। এটি এই অঞ্চলে এ শতাব্দীর অন্যতম ভয়াবহ বন্যা। এ বন্যায় পঁয়তাল্লিশ লক্ষের বেশী মানুষ পানিবন্দী হয়ে মানবেতর দিন যাপন করছেন। এটি এ বছর এ অঞ্চলে তৃতীয় বন্যা। সিলেট, সুনামগঞ্জ প্রভৃতি ছাড়াও আরো সতেরোটি জেলা এই বন্যার প্রকোপে আক্রান্ত হয়েছে।

স্বাভাবিক জীবনে ফিরে আসার জন্য বন্যায় আক্রান্ত লক্ষাধিক পরিবারগুলোর দীর্ঘমেয়াদী সাহায্য এবং পুনর্বাসনের জন্য সহযোগিতা প্রয়োজন। বিশেষ করে খাদ্য, সুপেয় পানি, বন্যা পরবর্তী পানিবাহিত রোগ- প্রতিরোধ ও চিকিৎসা, ওষুধ, এবং নিরাপদ আশ্রয় ও আবাসন।

ইরাসমুস মুন্ডুসের প্রাক্তন এবং বর্তমান শিক্ষার্থীদের মধ্য থেকে স্বেচ্ছাসেবকদের একটি দল এই দুর্যোগ কবলিত মানুষদের পাশে দাঁড়ানোর উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে। আমাদের ব্যক্তিগত ক্ষুদ্র প্রচেষ্টায় সামষ্টিকভাবে আমরা সহায়তা করতে পারি বন্যা কবলিত মানুষদের পুনর্বাসনে। ইরাসমুস মুন্ডুস বাংলাদেশ অধ্যায়ের অধীনে আমরা স্বেচ্ছাসেবকরা নিয়োজিত হয়েছি সেই প্রচেষ্টার বাস্তবায়নে। আমাদের সঙ্গী হবার জন্য আপনাদের সাদর আমন্ত্রণ।
