Help Claire Conquer Stage IV Colorectal Cancer

Donation protected
On August 12, 2019, Claire Jackson’s life changed drastically when she was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at age 25.

Claire graduated from UBC this past spring with a degree in Psychology and First Nations Indigenous Studies. She has dedicated her life to helping people, whether that’s through volunteering at Family Services and Big Sisters, or working at a Community Center in East Vancouver empowering youth. When she isn’t working or volunteering, Claire enjoys travelling and spending time in nature with her family, dogs, and friends. Claire is undoubtedly the most selfless, vibrant, and ambitious person we know.

In July, Claire had surgery to remove a mass which led to her shocking stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis. Colorectal cancer is extremely uncommon in young adults. Prior to her diagnosis, Claire had to take a significant amount of time off work as she was unwell and undergoing tests. Claire has not been working since July in order to focus on her treatment and recovery.

Claire has just begun 5-6 weeks of daily intensive radiation and chemo. After this, she will need 6-12 weeks to recover before requiring major surgery to remove all affected areas. This surgery will lead to Claire needing a colostomy. Post-surgery, Claire will undergo further intensive chemotherapy to ensure all cancer cells are gone.

Claire unfortunately does not have extended healthcare, and FairPharmacare only covers so much. This leaves Claire and her family to pay out of pocket for expensive prescriptions, ostomy supplies, dental, physio, and any other uncovered treatments. This includes the costly procedure that Claire underwent to retrieve her eggs before chemo and radiation. Claire will also have to manage costs of living, transportation, hospital parking, etc. while being unable to work.

We are seeking financial help for Claire and her family. As you can imagine this is not only emotionally and physically difficult, but is also financially stressful.

Claire has been unbelievably strong and continues to have an amazing sense of humour and positive outlook on life, despite her devastating diagnosis. All the donations raised will go directly to Claire and her family to help with her care and treatment.

Thank you for all your support.
