JUSTICE FOR CRAIG! hemophiliac dies in jail

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Taylor. My boyfriend of 10 years, Craig Vanausdal, recently died on May 16th, 2022 in a foreign jail while waiting to be extradited to America for a marijuana warrant from 2004. He traveled to the island for three days to help a friend with side work and make money to help with bills. On May 4th, after arriving at the airport to return to California, customs stopped him due to a marijuana warrant in Pennsylvania. Customs allegedly contacted the sheriff's office where the warrant was from to see if they should hold him, and they allegedly said yes. Craig was born with hemophilia, a potentially fatal bleeding disorder that prohibits blood from clotting correctly or even at all. He has taken medicine for it multiple times a week for his entire life. While waiting days and days to be extradited, Craig allegedly never received his medicine. In the early morning on May 16th, before sunrise, I received a heartbreaking call that Craig had just died. We have yet to receive the autopsy, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out what happened. I attached a link to an article about his death at the bottom of this page.

Our three dogs and I can no longer afford to live in California alone. Craig was our provider and owned a farm that I worked on in exchange for him paying our bills. With him gone, there is no farm, and now I have no job. The dogs and I must drive back to New Jersey from California to stay in my parent's basement while we get on our feet. However, my parents own an old dog who does not always get along with other animals, so our dogs will not be able to have free range of the yard or go upstairs in the house where there are windows. We are grateful to be able to stay in the basement, but I would like to raise money to secure a home with a yard they can run free in. I don't care if it's a shack; I will be fine if they have a yard and food. We will also need help with money for gas to get back across the country and to pay for hotels along the way. The family is so gracefully waiting for the dogs and me to return to the east coast to have his celebration of life. Which is another reason I am trying to get over there as quickly as possible.

I would also like to use this money to throw Craig the best celebration of life possible. Craig lived life to the fullest and always tried to keep a smile and a positive mindset even during the hard times. I know he would want his celebration to be happy, full of love, and music. As most of you know, Craig loved the Grateful Dead and traveled around the country to see Furthur, Phil & friends, JGB, Darkstar Orchestra etc. (all dead-related bands, for those who don't know). Our first date was Bob Dyan & Bob weir on 9/9/2012 at Hershey Park Pavilion in Pennsylvania. Craig didn't have a car then and bought one specifically to take me there. Our relationship and many of Craig's friendships were based on our shared love of music. I want to hire a Grateful Dead cover band to put on a show for him up in the sky. He wouldn't miss it, and I know his spirit will be there to dance with me and all of you one last time.

Lastly, I would like to put this money towards creating a non-profit or foundation in Craig's name one day to help other medically compromised inmates who need help getting their medicine in jail. One day he said to me, "Babe, can you imagine all the inmates who go through this same situation that don't have someone on the outside to make calls for them or help? I can't imagine going through this alone." Craig cried tears of joy to me over almost every jail call, thanking me for the calls I was making and the 24/7 effort I was putting in to help him. In our ten years together, I have only heard him cry a few times, and I know he was incredibly grateful for my help. It brings me peace knowing that Craig knew I tried with every ounce of my soul. I know he would want me to prevent this from happening to as many people as possible.

To summarize, this money will go towards:
  • Getting the dogs and me safely across the country (from California to New Jersey)
  • Securing us a place with a yard where they can roam freely
  • The best celebration of life possible
  • Creating a non-profit or foundation in Craig's name to help other medically compromised inmates in jail

Craig was the most loving, accepting, funny, caring, hardworking guy in the world. All he did was help people knowing there was 0 reward in it for him. He couldn’t pass a homeless person on the corner without going into the nearest store to buy them food- and if the person had a dog, he would buy them dog food too. He loved making people laugh; he knew he was funny and enjoyed putting a smile on everyones face. He cared deeply about animals, especially our four dogs; Stacks, Indica, Koda, and Moo. Stacks (his first dog in life) passed away a few years ago, and I find comfort knowing they are together now.

I will update this page as the investigation goes on. "What's done in the dark will always come to light." I whole heartidly promise that one day, the entire world will hear the inhumane, disturbing details of his death.

P.S. here is the link to the article about his death. However- they incorrectly state Craig's age and amount of time in jail. Craig was 39, not 36. And he was in there for a little under two weeks, not a month. If they cant get minor details like that correct, it makes you wonder other details are being incorrectly reported. Dont believe everything you hear.

Thank you for reading, and for any donations that we may get. I promise to pay it foward when we get back on our feet.
