MA Students Film Project - Surzhyk

About us
Hi, we're a group of MA students Karol Rutkowski, Weronika Czajkowska and Owain Morris from the University of South Wales, and as a part of one of our modules we have been given an opportunity to write and produce our own final film – Surzhyk.
The Plot
The film tells a story of two friends from Ukraine - Katia (21) and Olena (22), who flew their country and came to the UK when the war started. The characters get lost and while looking for their way home, they meet a man from Poland thanks to whom Katia finds out she is not yet free, and that she is under the influence of her friend Olena. Katia needs to take action in order to be truly free and be herself.
Why we want to make this film
It is a film about a present-day topic, and it raises an incredibly important matter of people who lost their homes and who now have to look for a new place to live.
We know that as filmmakers we are able to help Ukraine by making a truthful, pro Ukrainian, and anti-war film which will rise awareness about the war and its consequences. We want to shoot a film which will touch everyone’s heart. It is a tribute to all the people affected by the war.
