Ruffin' it: Our story of Mabel
Donation protected
Mabel has a hepatic (liver) arteriovenous fistula with multiple portosystemic liver shunts as a secondary condition. A fistula is a congenital vascular malformation in which an artery is incorrectly connected to part of the portal vein supply. To relieve the high pressure shunts are created between the hepatic artery and the portal vein. These shunts allow for blood that has not been filtered by the liver to circulate within the good blood supply.
The funds in this campaign will be used for the surgery/medical procedures that will take place on February 25, 2020, in hopes to repair what can be fixed. Although Mabel will be on medication and special food all her life, this surgery will greatly increase her quality of life.
All of my animals are like children to me, but Mabel has filled a hole in our hearts. She was exactly what we needed without either of us knowing it. For me, Mabel was the name of my grandmother, which is why she was picked. For Herve (Mabel's Daddy & my significant other), Mabel was his fresh start as he lost his dachshund a little over a year ago. Mabel has become his baby and honestly the relationship they have is all I ever could have hoped for.
Any donation, of any size, would mean the world to all of us. Mabel has become part of the family to me, her daddy, and to her doggie brother and sister. Any help that keeps her healthy, means so much more than any of us could ever put into words.
