MABO: Sacred knowledge handed down after 33 years
Donation protected
I am Celuia Mabo the youngest daughter of Dr. Edward Koiki Mabo and Dr. Bonita Mabo AO, and I am trying to raise funds to get my family home to Murray Island (Mer).
In 1989, my Father, Edward Mabo walked country (Mer - Las Village) with his son Eddie Mabo Jnr and handed down multi-generational cultural knowledge. This knowledge is yet to be handed down to the next generation.
Edward Mabo has two sons, who both hold vital and valuable cultural knowledge of our traditional homelands and if we do not return home, we are at risk of losing thousands of years of cultural knowledge and practice that needs to be handed down to the next generation. For this knowledge to be handed down and kept alive, we must be on and walking country.
We also aim to get home to Mer by June 3, 2022 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Mabo Decision.
Eddie and Bonita Mabo have 9 children, 40 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren and it’s going to cost over $50,000 to get a return charter flight for the family. This cost is nearly impossible to achieve without support.
This fundraiser will contribute to flights and freight costs food, water etc.
Your contribution will help keep our culture alive and continue to thrive.
