On Monday May 8, Lyall Allen Sharer; the best father a daughter could’ve asked for, a man of kindness and a humble heart joined my Mother, oldest Brother and my youngest Daughter in Heaven.

Lyall Sharer

My dad was two wheels down. A legend, one of the fastest flat track racers in his time. He could not only wrench but manipulate a bike’s specs so precisely that it inherited a new life into its performance. Some of the brands he raced were, Harley, Bultaco, and Triumph motorcycles. He raced on the AMA Professional Circuit (American Motorcycle Association) and one of his sponsors that, I knew of was David Downy. In his younger years he and a couple of friends even started the Slimy Crud Run that starts in Pine Bluff and goes to Leland, WI every May and October.
Lyall’s racing career came to a tragic hault. During a National Race another racer rode up behind him and nicked his rear tire causing a catastrophic crash. Leaving him hospitalized, my mother begged him to find another way to live his passion. So he did just what she asked, he found a way and promised her that he would not race again. He chose to sponsor others to race such as now family friend; Tom Bries. Even opened up a few motorcycle shops in Madison, WI naming it Sharer Cycle Center.

After inheriting the family farm, we raised beef cattle for a time. My father really just did not have the heart for raising cattle for beef. So he decided in 1993 he was going to relocate the motorcycle shop to our farm in Verona, WI and hired my then partner Louis Brings to help oversee sales and wrench. Not too long after I began renting the stable, starting my own venture, Lisa Sharer Equestrian stable. Now in cahoots we were Sharer Cycle Center & Stables. It was truly our paradise and we shared its magic with all who came to visit.

Cancer was the beginning of the end of our dream. In 2005 my father was diagnosed with leukemia. The medications prescribed for pain left him bedridden and the chemo was hard on his body. He soon became a shadow of himself. Shortly after the discovery of his cancer, we found ourselves in The Great Recession. Struggling to make ends meet we fell prey to loans. Little did we know this would lead to us being ripped from our home. A land that we even now hold deep in our hearts.

Our family has been through so much grief since 2014. Us being forced from the only home our family has known for generations. Then, soon after the devastating move we lost my mother; Betty, who had cancer in 2017. Shortly after, my eldest brother Allen joined her in heaven. My youngest daughter; Isabel, joined them in December of 2022 and now my father, Lyall. One never truly knows how much pain they can withstand until it happens to them.

Like I've mentioned, my dad had been fighting Leukemia since 2005. At one point he was on life support for 4 months and pulled through. We were hoping this was like any other time where he would get weak then, would pull through but this time his body had other plans.

My Dad was home where he wanted to be in his last hours. I thank God, I was next to him holding his hands during his last breaths in this human form.
“I don’t want to leave you” is one of the last things he told me. I told him, “It was okay, that It would be fine.” As tears stream down my face. I was trying to be strong and not let him see me crying.

In my grief I now find myself in need of your help. Your help in covering his funeral costs. After Isabel’s funeral in January I’m doing everything I can to scrape something together. Whatever you can afford, please help us bury Lyall. Most of all pray for us, we need strength most of all.

Please share with anyone in the Cycle community that would know my Dad.

Bless you,
Lisa Sharer
