Mackay dad, Kody Monks, injured in Sarina Mud Trials buggy crash.
Fatz Racing team member and father, Kody Monks was trapped inside a buggy for more than an hour after it rolled just before 1pm on Saturday during the annual Sarina Mud Trials.
Multiple emergency crews rushed to the scene at the Sarina Showgrounds, about 30 minutes’ drive south of Mackay, including a RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter crew.
Tara Smyth said her 24-year-old brother Kody was taken to Mackay Base Hospital where he remained in a coma on ventilation under the care of “absolutely amazing” medical teams.
“He’s definitely got a long road ahead of him,” Ms Smyth said.
“At this stage he still has an arm and his life which we are extraordinarily grateful for.”
She said the family was preparing for Kody’s third surgery in as many days to treat his shoulder and right arm which they believed “took the brunt” of the buggy rollover.
Kody now finds himself grappling with the overwhelming weight of his recovery, while also being a key provider for his daughter and family.
As friends and family, we are coming together to surround Kody with unwavering love and support during this time.
Our fervent hope is to provide Kody and his family with the financial resources they need so that they can focus on Kodys health and recovery. Our goal is to ensure that Kody is not deprived of the medical care, attention and rehabilitation that he will require throughout his long and difficult journey ahead.
We Kody's family and friends implore our extended community, both near and far, to join us in extending a helping hand to Kody as he navigates this unfathomable journey.
Your contribution regardless of its size, will be a beacon of hope, easing the financial strain and providing Kody with the stability and financial resources he desperately needs to ensure a hopeful recovery.
Your kindness and empathy will serve as a lifeline, granting the strength and resources required to forge ahead after this accident.
We express our deepest gratitude for considering a donation and for holding Kody in your thoughts during this profoundly challenging period.
Thank you,
