Mack’s Recovery Treatment
Donation protected
NOTE: If you are able to donate more than $500.00, please contact Kansas-lee on Facebook messenger: https://www.facebook.com/kansas.hatherly?mibextid=LQQJ4d
Our goal is $50,000, but to be transparent we will update the goal amount to reflect that the donations we receive privately have been subtracted from the total goal.
Our beloved friend, son, and brother, Mack Shields, has hit rock bottom and is in urgent need of assistance. At the young age of 36, Mack has become completely dependent on fentanyl and it has taken over his life. His loved ones have been concerned that each time we see him could be the last. He has been fighting his addiction for a long time, and his health is at the lowest ever.
Addiction is a disease that can be treated, but treatment is inaccessible to many due to the cost. Having the funds to provide him with proper treatment, as soon as possible, could save his life.
Mack has now agreed to treatment. Which is a huge first step.
Any donations received will go directly towards detox and getting Mack into a treatment facility. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
More information about Mack:
If you know Mack personally, then you are aware of how magical his presence is. His brilliant humour, abundant kindness, and supreme talent are unparalleled. Mack is a community builder who has brought together hundreds of beautiful people from all walks of life. He is a humble genius with a one-of-a-kind soul that truly makes our world worth living in.
Mack is one of the most highly skilled musicians in Canada. He’s an extraordinary violinist, songwriter, singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. He has touched so many lives, many for free. From busking on the streets to touring worldwide, he’s generously shared his gift of music for many years, while struggling with addiction. We all want to see Mack plucking his violin with his vibrant smile again. We know we can achieve this with your help.

More information about opioid addiction and recovery:
The opioid crisis in British Columbia is one of the worst in our country and is only getting worse since a public health emergency was declared seven years ago. Over 10,000 people have lost their lives in British Columbia since then.
Although the government does have some services in place, the number of people needing help far exceeds the availability of doctors and treatment centres for those needing immediate care.
A paid, extended treatment program will ensure Mack gets the medical attention he is in immediate need of. The expenses for this treatment are high but proven highly effective.
Mack is ready, willing, and grateful to begin detox and treatment as soon as we are able to lay the path for him.
This situation has become a matter of life or death. Any contribution to keeping our dear friend alive would be immensely appreciated.
I am Kansas-Lee Hatherly, the manager and beneficiary of this gofundme, and a dear musician friend of Mack’s. Along with his mother, Debra Shields, and a team of friends, we have created this page to gather the funds needed to get Mack into detox and a treatment facility ASAP.
Mack has agreed to treatment and the team is currently discussing his options with him. With friends in medical, harm reduction, intervention and addiction recovery fields, he has the best support system for this.
Funds will be deposited into my bank account.
$25,500 for the initial program at a facility that we are looking into.
He will need something more long term after this, which the rest of the funds will be allocated towards. I will provide more details about this as I receive them from the team.
Thank you.
