Mac's Three Peak Mountain Challenge 18th May 2024
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
Myself, my brother in-law and a close friend will be attempting to complete the Three Peak Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) in just 24 hours!
We have chosen this challenge in memory of my wife and I's son Mac Quinn, who sadly passed away on the 19th of May 2023, at just two weeks old. This was due to a rare genetic condition called Nonketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH).
My wife and I were both unaware that we are both carriers of this extremely rare genetic condition.
Unaware of the reasons at the time, Macs condition quickly deteriorated, and he was then admitted to Kingsmill Hospital. After a short time on the Neonatal ward, Mac was then moved to Queens Medical Centre (PICU ward) as he needed specialist care and a ventilator 24/7 as he was unable to breathe for himself due to this cruel condition.
Once Queens Medical Centre identified Mac's genetic condition, we were then faced with the heart breaking news that no parent should ever have to face, that there was nothing more that could be done for Mac, and we would have to withdraw his ventilation.
Shortly after this news we decided to take Mac back to Kingsmill Hospital for his final days.
The donations raised will be split between Kingsmill Neonatal, Kingsmill Children's ward and Queens Medical Children's PICU. All the staff on each of these wards went above and beyond for our son, and the support given to Mac and ourselves during the worst times of our life's will never be forgotten.
We want to show our appreciation to all the nurses, doctors and support staff, and also supply all three wards with essential items to help further families going through similar situations in a time of need.
Any donations no matter how small will be greatly appreciated!
Please share far and wide.
All donations will be split equally between Kingsmill Hospital Neonatal ward, Kingsmill ward 25 and Queen Medical PICU Ward. It will go towards making care packages for families in difficult times staying on the wards, items for the children on the wards, items which the nurses and doctors could use for each families stay. The littlest things could make a BIG difference!
