Macy Edwards

On Tuesday 28th March 2023, 22 year old Macy Edwards was heading home from a Tour Guiding training course in Launceston, when she was involved in a horrific car accident which has left her currently fighting for her life.

With a boundless sense of adventure and the world at her fingertips, our wonderful Wynyard girl has remained in an induced coma in Hobart for over a week since her accident, while specialists work around the clock to assess and address her significant list of internal injuries, including brain and heart trauma, broken ribs, pelvis, collarbone, along with neck and tailbone fractures - some of which will require her to be flown to Melbourne when she is stable. The extent of her injuries and the impact this will have on her is still unknown, however it is expected to be a long and intense journey ahead for Macy.

Macy, just like her family, is a truly people and community-oriented soul. You may know her from Bruces or Cafe Umami, where she affectionately refers to herself as an "underwater ceramic technician" (aka a kitchenhand). She is a larrakin who is full of life, has a love of people, and is designed and destined for helping others. For those of you who know her parents, Celisa and Steve (Eddie), they are traits she has inherited from them.

Celisa and Eddie have immediately put their lives on hold to support Macy at this time. Celisa, a devout representative of our community on the Waratah-Wynyard Council, has had to take a pause from her role in order to be in Hobart with Macy. Eddie has had to completely suspend operating his business, Sparra's Gardening Services.

The journey ahead for Macy is completely unknown, but at this time, any support we can provide the Edwards's to be able to be present with Macy in Hobart during this fragile time, is a gift. We all know the Edwards's to be selfless people who are driven to help others and ask for nothing in return, so this GoFundMe provides us the opportunity to gift them precious time to support Macy without the weighty burden of worrying about their lack of income and future needs for treatment and care that will likely ensue.
