Maddison Ballard Medical Support

Family and friends, my name is Molly Simon and I am Maddison (Maddie) Ballard’s older sister. My beautiful, loving, and outgoing baby sister was recently involved in a terrible accident while skiing in Breckenridge Colorado. We write to you now with the hope that you will consider helping support Maddie during her very difficult journey ahead. Maddie required emergent surgery to stop internal bleeding and repair orthopedic injuries, before being transported in critical condition to St Anthony’s Level One Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment. Maddie was a polytrauma patient, with several organ systems being affected by her accident. Her diagnoses are as follows:

- Critical Polytrauma

- Closed injury of lower never roots of brachial plexus, additional surgeries are anticipated

- Neurasthenia

- Fractured right femur/closed fracture, steel rod placed and non-weight bearing for 6 weeks

- Pelvic Hematoma

- Multiple rib fractures

- Bilateral pneumothoraces

- Thoracic compression fracture

- Acute bloodloss anemia

- Lactic acidosis

- Grade 3 spleen laceration and removal of the spleen

- Dislocated right hip, surgery performed, open reduction internal fixation

- Hemorrhagic shock

- Concussion

Our family is grateful to God Maddie survived.

Now, a little bit about my sister Maddie. She is currently a sophomore at Louisiana State University where she is pursuing a degree in psychology. Maddie is also very involved in her sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma. She has been an LSU Tiger from the moment she was born! Maddie also held a job at Fred’s Bar and Grill.

Maddie will be unable to return to her normal day-to-day, as she has a long road to full recovery. She is very strong in her faith and maintains a positive outlook on the difficult journey ahead of her. Maddie will be taking online classes from LSU for now. She will likely have to undergo additional surgeries followed by intense outpatient Physical and Occupational therapies. We will be creating this Go Fund Me account to help provide additional support for Maddie while she gets back on her feet. She will not be able to work, so there will be no additional income. Any donation will help with her medical expenses and recovery efforts. We greatly appreciate all the love and prayers that we have already received.
