Maddox's Hip Journey
Donation protected
Our little harness hero!
Maddox was born via c-section due to breech presentation, despite all of our efforts to flip him head down. The surgery was pretty traumatic for Raiyne and I wasn’t able to cut the umbilical cord because it was wrapped around our baby’s neck (we read that some babies stay breech because they sense turning can tighten the cord more). After he was born, we were told we would have to come back to the hospital to have scans done to determine if Maddox has hip dysplasia, which occurs in about 1 in 1000 births, usually in girls and on one side. As it turns out, our little guy has it in both sides and will have to wear a Pavlik harness full-time for at least the next 12 weeks. The harness has a 90% success rate and is supposed to correct his hip placement and development of the socket. Here’s to hoping the next 3 months goes by fast and his scans come back with positive progress…
