Maddox's Orthopedic Surgery

Maddox is scheduled to have double hip surgery, along with procedures on the left hamstring and left shin on April 18, 2023 at Akron Children’s Hospital which means that his last day at school will be April 17th for this year.

He will be in the hospital for a few days after surgery. Then he will recover at home, unable to bear weight on his legs for at least 6 weeks. Once things are healed and he can bear weight, we will head back to Akron where he will be admitted to the hospital for intense physical therapy. After a few weeks and when ready, he will transfer to day therapy where he will stay in the Ronald McDonald house. We will be in Akron for 4-8 weeks depending on how he is recovering.

This surgery and therapy, out of state, will require much traveling between Pennsylvania and Ohio. June and I will need to take time off of work to care for him during his 12-14 week recovery. Unfortunately, we do not have that much time to take off without taking unpaid leave. I will be home for the first half of the recovery as June will need to go back to work after surgery. Then we will swap so that I can return to work while she heads to Akron with Maddox hopefully once the school year is over and summer break has begun. This means our family will be split during this time. Sadie and I will be at home in Pennsylvania, while June and Maddox are in Ohio. This will be hard on all of us and why Sadie and I will be traveling to Ohio on the weekends!

This will be a difficult time, but Maddox needs this surgery to improve his mobility and health for the years to come.

It is so hard for us to have to ask for help again, but we cannot do this alone. Maddox needs his army of supporters to help him through another hurdle. Please know that we are so very appreciative.
