Hello! My name is Maddox Jakob and I am a transgender guy. My gender journey started young, but in strange ways. As a child, I never fully conformed to the gender stereotypes for children, but never fully went against them, either. I wore skirts and t-shirts, pink and blue. I played dress-up and “ninjas”, with ponies and cars. I fearlessly picked up bugs but never killed them. Essentially, I didn’t fully connect with the expectations of my birth gender, but not in a fashion extreme enough to be noted. As I grew older, I became more of a “tomboy”. I played soccer with the boys and when I hung out with girls I didn’t feel a strong connection with them and did so to fit in. In late elementary school, I began calling myself Maddox in make-believe games and “pretending” to be a boy. In seventh grade, I finally cut my hair as short as I had always wanted– a length that I called “boy short”. At the time, I could not explain the euphoria I felt from seeing myself with short hair. I started smiling every time I looked in the mirror as opposed to feeling discomfort when looking at my body after it had been cursed by female puberty. In sophomore year of high school, I joined the advanced drama class. I met people that made me feel comfortable enough to begin experimenting. For about a year, I used they/them pronouns in that class. In junior year, I tried out he/they pronouns, and now, I have settled on he/him for over a year. About three years ago, my friends began calling me Maddox, and a year and a half ago my family did as well when I finally came out to them.
I am turning 18 soon, and with that, I can get top surgery. It’s like after puberty hit, I held my breath, waiting to look like all the other boys. And with top surgery, I will finally breathe again.
(a literal and figurative weight off my chest… ba-dum tsss)
Anyway, any amount helps. Anything at all :)
Thank you :D
