Maddy’s Road to Recovery

Hello, I'm Emerson Vink.

I'm reaching out to gather support for my cousin, Madelyn Vink, during this incredibly trying time.

Maddy, as she is called by friends and family, was struck by a car while crossing a street on campus this past Friday, September 1st.

The injuries she sustained are severe, including four brain bleeds, a fractured pelvis and C1 vertebrae, broken ribs, and a substantial laceration to her head.

Maddy is a Turlock, California native and a graduate of Pitman High School. She's currently close to completing her degree in Religious Studies at Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata, California.

Maddy has always been someone who embraced the world fully. She has a deep love for Humboldt County, drawn to the inclusivity and warmth of the people there. A lover of art, she dreams of one day becoming a Museum Art Curator, a role where she believes she can use art's unique power to heal, inspire, and unite communities.

Madelyn carries a heart full of compassion and commitment to the well-being of others, always ready to lend a hand where it's needed most. She has a special appreciation for the rich history and culture of the Indigenous communities in Humboldt County and is eager to be a part of initiatives uplifting them.

As of now, the full scope of her recovery remains unclear, and the journey ahead seems to be a long one. Her parents, Chris and Keira Vink, are facing an overwhelming amount of expenses - medical bills and various other unexpected costs including travel and accommodation.

At this juncture, our goal is to lessen this financial burden as much as possible.

Any form of support you can extend during this time would be a tremendous help as we rally around Madelyn and her family, helping them to navigate through this difficult period.
