Madison Welcome Corps: Help Resettle a Refugee in Madison
Donation protected
We are a group of five Madisonians (Kevin, Mari, Jennifer, Nithin, and Alana) who started Madison Welcome Corps to help resettle refugees in Madison, Wisconsin.
We're heartbroken to witness what the UN calls “the highest levels of displacement on record.” But we are thankful to learn of the new government program, Welcome Corps, that helps everyday Americans sponsor refugees. The partner organization Alight is helping us navigate the resettlement.
To our surprise, we were matched almost immediately with a Venezuelan refugee who will join us in May. We are excited to help him start a new life! As a team, we've committed to help him get appropriate documentation, find a job, enroll in English classes, access healthcare, connect with the community, and much more.
We are raising funds to provide necessities for the refugee newcomer for his first 90 days in Madison. Donations will be used to pay for things like housing, food, clothing, furniture, kitchen supplies, etc.
As a team, we have personally contributed $4,800, and are aiming to raise a total of $10,000. The goal of sponsorship is self-sufficiency and we will use excess funds to help other refugees resettle. We are grateful for donations of any amount!
If you aren’t able to donate money at this time, please consider sharing this link with others – it would really help. And check out our website to volunteer, donate items, or read about our progress!
Thank you so much!
