Madison Saunders' Medical and Recovery
Donation protected
Madison Saunders was involved in a serious car accident on the night of September 23rd, 2023. The car tumbled a few times and she was ejected. There were three others in the vehicle who are all also recovering. Madison severely fractured her spine in multiple locations. She went into emergency surgery which last 7 hours to put a rod in her back. She also broke several ribs, her sternum, and almost bit her tongue off (which has been repaired). She is also suffering from PTSD. Her entire family has been constantly rotating through to be with her in the hospital to support her. Currently, on September 27th, she is still in the surgical ICU unit. She will be for a few more days as they monitor her healing. She has had slow but steady progress in being able to move her feet! The road to recovery is going to be long and hard, but her entire family will be walking the road with her until she hopefully can again. Medical bills are piling up fast. She will be looking at not being able to work for another 8 months at least. This fund account has been set up to assist her in paying bills and providing funds for the support she is going to be needing (because of course, those never stop coming). Her dog, Rusty, was also in the vehicle at the time. She remembers holding him tight to make sure he survived. That is her baby. He was able to be caught until the morning of September 25th. He was taken to emergency vet care, and other than sore muscles, a few broken claws, and anxiety, he is thankfully also okay.
She is projected to be in the hospital for at least a week and a half. Financial hardship is just one issue we would prefer her not worry about at this time. On top of the hospital stay, UVA Hospital is recommending sending her to Atlanta, Georgia for rehabilitation and daily physical therapy in hope she will eventually be able to walk again. Costs to relocate at least her mother to be with her in Georgia would also be a factor in being able to place her in this facility.
Madison is such an outgoing, outdoor girl. She belongs on the back of a horse, ATV, or tractor. You will find her taking care of her animals and for a living, landscapes. The ability to walk again is important to regain a bit of normalcy in her future when she kicks butt in healing after this traumatic event.
Madison has her ups and downs during this trying time, but the one thing she is holding onto is the support she has from all of us.
Any help that you can provide will help support her not only physically, but also mentally.
If you cannot donate, please at least consider sharing this to all of your friends and family.
