Madisyn’s fight with Wilson’s Disease

Hello, my name is Taylor Kain & my 15 year old sister, Madisyn, has recently been diagnosed with Wilson’s Disease. Its very rare & an inherited disorder that causes too much copper to stick in the organs. Instead of eliminating it accumulates. In Madisyn’s case its affecting her liver. She had start to go jaundice earlier last week & was seen by her PCP on Wednesday & got bloodwork done. Wednesday night my mother had received a phone call to pack some bags & head to Albany Med. They were in Albany Med where they ended up giving her antibiotics for an inflamed gallbladder, hoping it would normalize her levels- which it did not. By Sunday afternoon, after more bloodwork & scans- they decided it was best to fly her to Colombia Presbyterian in NYC. She is on the top of the transplant list & has multiple approved donors already. Currently, she is intubated & STABLE (which is very very good) As you could imagine, this is a very scary time for our family & has happened so suddenly. She is a very active, healthy, smart, 15 year old girl who we just want home, safe & healthy. She has so many friends & family cheering for her!! My parents have been with her every single night, so they have been missing work so they don’t miss any information or team meetings. This would also help towards her medical bills. We dont know how long she will be in the hospital for currently. She will have a long road to recovery with lots of dr appts & trips to the city which means gas, food, hotel rooms, etc. We dont like asking for help, but if you could we would be forever grateful. food gift cards, shares, donations- anything.
