HELP Mads Afford Top Surgery March 2024

EDIT: I have gotten the final estimate for the surgery which is due prior to the operation. I am hoping we can raise the rest before it is due.

Hello!

My name is Mads (they/he) and I've been medically transitioning since March 2021. In 2023, I had scheduled top surgery with a surgeon in network with my insurance for 10/13/2023. I was medically and psychologically approved to have the surgery, my coworkers and supervisors were extremely supportive and encouraged me to get it done. I found out in July that the company I had worked for had purchased a transphobic insurance policy in which they exclude ALL gender affirming care under the guise of no sex transformation surgeries (which are not a real thing). I tried to work with them and had coworkers, supervisors, managers etc sign a form to request that the company remove the very blatant transphobic exclusion. Instead of working with me they doubled down and told me they didn't have to do anything. I ended up quitting the job and finding new employment after having to cancel my surgery. When I canceled it, I was told they would contact me to reschedule it for 2024 sometime. I never heard back from them until today...

Apparently when I had canceled my original surgery they preemptively booked me for March 19 and I wasn't aware.

I would really like to be able to keep this appointment and remove something that has been causing not only mental/emotional pain but physical pain. Taking HRT has significantly reduced the amount of breast tissue I have which has exponentially increased my dysphoria around them. And due to the dysphoria I am binding more which has caused me issues within my breast tissue and nipple piercings.

To keep my surgery, I need to ensure that I can pay my deductible/out of pocket max and have funds for supplies as I recover.

I'm looking for $5k to cover both my out of pocket amount of $4k and the rest for recovery supplies. Anything that is unused for this will be donated to another trans person in need of funding.

Being able to have top surgery done in March would be the world's greatest birthday present and life changing for me.

Funds will be used to pay for surgery (whatever my HSA cant cover), supplies needed during recovery, missed wages during care, etc. All funds will be going towards making sure i have a successful and smooth recovery.

EDIT: Surgery got pushed back 3 days to March 22! Its officially been authorized by insurance as well and I can get an estimated cost soon.
