Maegan Martinez Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Hey everyone, as some of you know and many that don’t, our good friend Maegan has hit some major health challenges over this past month. It began on 8.22.22 while Maegan was at work, she had a weird “wave” come over her, she got incredibly hot, her legs went numb, and she felt weak. She thought it could be low blood pressure, so Maegan went to her supervisor and asked for a blood pressure cuff. By the time she got into the training room where this was located, she began feeling very dizzy and as if she were going to pass out. Maegan began to shake everywhere and was having severe tremors. Her co workers went to lay her down, but she could not make it, and ended up fainting. Visiting Angels called her mom to take her into the doctor. Her Mom took her to an urgent care in town at that point, and they believed it was only a migraine causing her symptoms. That entire week she continued to feel off and weak.

Friday 8.26.22 she again was having severe tremors, feeling weak, and dizzy. At this point Maegan went into the ER here in Pagosa- they did CT’s and felt like at this point she needed to be flown to Denver. Maegan spent two days in Denver. Her tremors did calm down during these two days, but Maegan was also suffering from severe back pain- her legs were weak, particularly on the right side. She had pain from her glute, down to her ankle. Like Pagosa Urgent care, Denver suspected that Maegans symptoms were due to her Migraines and opted not to do a spinal MRI, but did do a brain MRI- this MRI ruled out stroke, MS, tumor or brain bleed. Maegan was released on 8.28.22 and sent home the same day.

Unfortunately, in the coming days, Maegan began to decline rapidly. Her tremors were getting so bad to the point that she could hardly walk, with severe back pain and some further personal symptoms. On 9.8.22, Maegan’s primary doctor told her she needed to get to Mercy Hospital immediately. She did so, and Mercy performed a spinal MRI and found that Maegan had been suffering from a rare syndrome labeled “Cauda Equina Syndrome” The Dr’s rushed her into surgery within 1 hour after the MRI had been completed. Apparently with this syndrome, there is a 48 hour window to operate to prevent permanent nerve damage, and Maegan had been suffering for 2 weeks!! Thankfully this was caught and Maegan is home and healing, but it is a slow and long process. Maegan is still struggling with nerve loss, and we are unsure if she will regain that or not. There may be future procedures, but only time will tell.

The medical bills are piling up and causing stress to this family, who has already been through a ton in the last month. Any support and help we can give her would be very much appreciated! I have never seen someone with such a positive attitude through such a trying time. Those of you who know Maegan know that this is just who she is, such a beautiful human inside and out! Maegan has a long and hard road to recovery, but she is determined to come out of this stronger than ever! Please help Maegan financially if you are able to and pray for her full healing!
