In today’s world - most of us can’t afford to get sick....

Our dear friend, sister, and aunt Maggie went in for emergency gallbladder surgery on February  27.   Before going to the ER  she was experiencing stomach pain and some itching.  After surgery, she was sent home.  During that first week at home, she began itching profusely (the kind of itchy where literally you want to tear your skin off) and it was unbearably painful!  She went back into ER and they did another surgery to see if something was missed. Nothing was found.  A week later she went back to the hospital for a liver biopsy, as the doctors wanted to check for a serious liver disease --- thankfully this was dismissed with the biopsy findings.

Her doctors continued to treat her with stronger medications for Pruritus (itching). The itching medicine made her nauseous 24/7. The answer. More medications.  At one point Maggie had six different medications she had to take multiple times a day.

Since Feb 27, Maggie had not been able to work at her sales position where she’s been employed for 25 years (did we mention 100% commission?).

After things continued to go downhill, Maggie was finally admitted into the hospital on April 15th to undertake a more invasive procedure to see if there was blockage in her bile system. No blockage was found.   An unlucky result of the procedure was the development of acute pancreatitis.   She spent 7 days in the hospital, which included a stint with a feeding tube to help her heal from the acute pancreatitis. She’s lost 25 pounds and is incredible weak.   The good news is she was able to return home this evening.

This is a perplexing case as noted by her doctor team.  The initial diagnosis is a toxic drug interaction stemming from the three subsequent surgeries in late February and early March.  At this time, we also don’t know when she’ll be strong enough to return to work.  She also is working through a process for a referral to Mayo.

While Maggie has insurance, the out of pocket costs, co-pays, and prescriptions, compounded by not being able to work for two months is taking a devastating financial toll on her.

Maggie has three beautiful children who depend on her:  17 year old daughter Holly (junior in high school at Carlton), daughter Ava, 19,  a freshman at UMD, and her 23 year old son Everett who is currently deployed with the Minnesota Army National  Guard.  Maggie also has her fur babies, Chitty, Lola, and Ollie and two grand-dogs, Zeus and Skye.

It’s taken several weeks of convincing our hard working friend, sister, and aunt that she needs help to get through this crisis.

Please help to ease Maggie’s stress by making a donation and/or sharing this post with your friend, family and co-workers.

We are setting up a benefit account at US Bank in Cloquet and will be adding that information tomorrow if you would rather make a donation by check.

Please continue to send your prayers, well wishes, and healing energy her way!  We know the healing and recovery process is going to take time.  Your support will help get Maggie  back on her feet again.

Thank you,

Zane, Lyn, Lori, and Cheryl
