Maggie Merced's Medical Expenses

Maggie (Maria) Merced passed on Saturday, December 3, 2016. She was diagnosed with brain cancer more than 8 months ago and told she had about 6 months. She was at Brigham & Women's Hospital since 11/19/16.

Those of us who have lived or worked with Maggie over the years know how much she cared for her children and grandchildren -- and all those around her and her community. I had the privilege of working for a decade with her at Alternatives for Community & Environment . She really was a mother to all of us at ACE.

Now her family needs us. Maggie's son Ivan Baella is her only family living in Boston. Maggie's mother passed several weeks ago in Puerto Rico. And though Maggie was there and spent precious time with her grandchildren, there are legal issues to work out regarding her mother's will.

We are raising funds to help with medical expenses, travel for family from Puerto Rico,  memorial costs, and any legal expenses. These funds are needed now, as family is trying to get here as soon as possible. We don't know how much longer Maggie will have. Ivan will need help too, as he is the one doing much of the coordination with her care and with the legal issues in Puerto Rico.

Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated and will help ease the stress on Maggie, Ivan and family.
