Maggie, our 4.5 month old family puppy injury
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Bethany. Our family puppy, Maggie Mae is a 4.5 month old Maltese. We got her in October of 2023. She recently learned to climb our stairs, however she cannot climb down them…. She was playing upstairs with my 2 & 5 year old & accidentally fell down the stairs January 1st. The next morning she was about the same as the day before so I called our local vet & got her in that night. After running some tests & 2 X-rays it was safe to say poor Maggie has 2 broken bones. Her ulna & radius. We were given a few options: 1) splinting 2) being referred to an orthopedic surgeon a few hours away where her bones would have to be metal plated costing ‘a few thousand’ 3) amputation 4) being put to sleep. DEVASTATING NEWS. We were sent home after almost $350 with the news & her medication for 2 weeks. The vet will call in 3 days on what we can decide.
We decided to have her leg splinted two different times. This last appointment to change the splint they said splinting would not heal her leg. She will need surgery. I’ve been quoted $1,200-$8,000 anywhere & everywhere in the state. Right now splinting isn’t making it worse but isn’t healing it so until we get the funds she will be splinted. Continuing her anti-inflammatory & pain medicines.
This is our family pet. My kids cannot lose their puppy so young. I have not been able to work since May of 2023 because of a surgery with lifelong complications. PLEASE if there is anyway you can help- ANYTHING- is appreciated. Thank you so much!
