Maggie Parr Memorial Bench On The Mississippi
Donation protected
Maggie Parr, a lifelong resident of La Crosse and Viroqua, Wisconsin, bravely passed away on Valentine's Day 2021 from Stage 4 Cancer at age 78. In remembrance, Maggie's desire was a Memorial Bench and Tree in her name overlooking the Mississippi River in La Crosse.
With your help, her family is dedicated to fulfilling this wish. In collaboration with the City of La Crosse, this bench and planting will be a timeless memorial for generations to enjoy.
Our love for Maggie is as enduring and unstoppable as the Mississippi and her strong roots in La Crosse deserve permanent ground. She will always have a place in our hearts, we would like her memory and name to have a beautiful place in the sun.
Maggie didn't want to have a burial or headstone, she wanted a memorial that celebrated life, nature and the wonder of Wisconsin.
If we exceed our fundraising goals, the family would also like to dedicate a memorial Adirondack chair in Trempealeau with a view of the river, where Maggie liked to spend time with her family and watch the water. In Stoughton on the shores of the Yahara River, we also hope to plant 4 ginkgo trees in her memory.
Maggie was an active member of the La Crosse and Viroqua communities, passionately supporting local causes and working at several small businesses and non-profits, including the La Crosse Visitors Bureau located within Riverside Park. Maggie was a dedicated advocate for her neighbors, local artists and the natural beauty of the driftless area.
Maggie enjoyed the music of B.B. King and Aretha Franklin, the beauty of the Mississippi River, gardening and volunteering at the food pantry. But above all, Maggie loved her family and friends. She always had a moment to chat, a hug and perhaps a sassy one-liner.
