Magic City Mural Festival 2022
Donation protected
Hey everyone, my name is Meghan, and I’m the Founder and Owner of Blank Space Bham (a small community arts business based out of Birmingham, Alabama!) For the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of working with my friend and community gatekeeper, Jason Avery, to develop an extraordinary, award-winning placemaking project for the historic Birmingham neighborhood of Woodlawn called "The Way" via the Magic City Mural Festival.**
Through the ups and downs of growth and decline, Woodlawn has remained a community defined by strength. No one embodies that better than the women that call it home. This mural festival, led by women and featuring an all-female artist lineup, aims to speak to the strength, grace, and resiliency that has come to define this special neighborhood. Last October, we were very proud to help facilitate Birmingham's first-ever mural festival in Woodlawn, which saw the successful installation of 6 incredible murals by female muralists from across the country.
We're excited to share that we're back for round two! This year's festival again sees us joined by artists from across the US (and right here in Birmingham!) to help bring a little extra magic to the Magic City this November 5-12.
We've been fortunate so far in our fundraising efforts to secure partners outside of this crowdsourcing platform for the bulk costs of our needs (thank you, Woodlawn United, for being our presenting sponsor!) Despite this good news, we still need your help to complete the vision of bringing this outdoor gallery to life in Woodlawn!
We're asking for at least $3,000 from our family, friends, coworkers, neighbors...anybody who wants to give and feels compelled to help us tell the story of Woodlawn. Please, be a champion for strong, thriving places. Help to BE the magic in the Magic City.
Donations will go directly towards funding:
- Paint & materials
- Meals for the visiting artists
- Accommodation for our out-of-town artists.
** Jason and I work freely to bring this festival to life. Money raised through this fundraiser will go directly to supporting the needs of the festival, artists, and additional placemaking elements for the alleyway, such as landscaping, gravel, cafe lights, and seating options.
