Charity World Record Magic Skydive!

Hello and thank you for visiting this page!

My name is Martin, I’m a magician from Hertfordshire and I’m raising money for my chosen charity Spread a Smile by setting two new extreme Guinness World Records! These are;

Most Magic Tricks Performed in a Wind Tunnel in 3 minutes (achieved on the 5th of May this year at iFly Indoor Skydiving, Milton Keynes)

Most Magic Tricks Performed on a Single Skydive (achieved at Go Skydive, Salisbury as part of Guinness World Records Day 2016)

Neither of these records have been attempted before and have presented countless challenges along the way. Not only am I massively restricted on what can be performed, there are wind speeds of over 120 mph, sub-zero temperatures and the impending doom of hurtling towards the earth to contend with!

My experience with Spread A Smile

The Spread a Smile team are fantastic. They go above and beyond to provide as much fun as possible for not only the kids but the families too. As well as hospital visits, families are invited on day trips out to various attractions & theatre shows or event days with lots of activities. This gives the families not only a break from the monotony of the hospital, but also lots of cherished memories to share, especially in cases where there may not be much time left.

But in all the years of performing magic, nothing has compared to the truly magical moments I’ve experienced while performing at the hospitals with Spread a Smile. Some of these incredible kids are in there on an almost permanent basis and having got to know them over the past year has been an incredibly humbling experience.

Hospitals can be an extremely unnerving and scary place for an adult, let alone a child. Particularly if they are a long term patient, the monotony, angst and boredom can be draining on the mind as well as the body. Helping to alleviate this is what we do and although we can’t cure them (this is done by the remarkable doctors & nurses on the wards), we assist in helping with the small but major victories.

Some of the most magical moments have been a fairy encouraging a little girl to take a sip of drink and talk after a throat operation, a singer’s beautiful voice soothing a scared & crying baby and a nurse commenting that a little boy’s low blood pressure increased when he reacted to a trick I’d just performed!

About the Record Attempts

Inspired by the visits to the hospitals, I wanted to do something completely different. Initially the plan was to just perform a couple of tricks on a skydive to show the kids at the hospitals, however when talking about it with the Spread a Smile team, the idea for setting the Guinness World Record for most magic tricks performed on a skydive was born!

In order to train for the attempt, I started practicing at iFly indoor skydiving in Milton Keynes. The crew at iFly have been fantastic and really excited about the project. As a result, manager Andy Godwin challenged me to set the record for the most magic tricks performed in a wind tunnel in 3 minutes, which was officially achieved in May!

Following this, Guinness World Records PR Manager Doug Male got in touch about the skydive record and asked if I would postpone from my original date in July and do the record as part of Guinness World Records Day 2016 which I delightedly agreed to! So after months of being sworn to secrecy, it is with great pleasure I can finally announce that as of today, I am OFFICIALLY a multiple Guinness World Record Holder having set the record for the Most Magic Tricks Performed On A Skydive! You can watch the record unfold on the above video and I’ll be discussing all in various interviews throughout the day and all will be shared on social media so to keep up to date, please like, share and follow on twitter.com/magicmanmartin and facebook.com/martinreesmagician .
