Our beloved BROW (beach right of way) trash collector, Terryl Leong, is retiring on October 31. She has been working in Waimānalo, and also Lanikai to Mokapu in Kailua for 10 years. You can't miss her, she's a sweet petite at under 100lbs. For being 70 years old, she is very strong and active. That has to do with her gymnast background. Terryl has gone above and beyond for the community. She takes abandoned animals or strays to the Humane Society, she reports illegal dumping, and makes the necessary extra trips to the dispose of the over-piled trash in the beach accesses.
She is retiring but will continue to be active as she takes care of family kuleana, and may be moving off island. I would like to send her off sweetly so she can have the means to do what she enjoys. On behalf of Waimānalo, we thank you for taking care of us as your own. May her legacy remind people that this is our home, and we need to keep our communities clean. Carry an extra bag to the beach to pick up trash and haul back home. Mahalo.
