Maia Williams and Wyman Rousseau Need Our Help

For more than a decade, Maia and Wyman have given their all to the San Miguel de Allende, Mexico community. Now, Maia has Stage 4 cancer (three inoperable spinal tumors) and Wyman has Stage 5 Parkinson’s. After six months of radiation, chemo and immuno-therapy in Charlottesville, VA, made possible with tremendous support from their son Landon and his family, they have returned to San Miguel to live out what is likely to be their last year.
Wyman now needs daily assistance with everything from walking to eating due to his advanced Parkinson’s. Maia´s treatments and the condition of her spine have left her weakened and no longer able to physically care for Wyman.
Unfortunately, these developments in their health leave them facing financial burdens that require resources beyond their expectations, adding to their already heavy concerns. We have created this fundraiser to provide much-needed financial relief.
They need our help to pay for staff to assist Wyman several hours a day and during emergencies, food delivery since they are no longer able to cook, legal fees to cover their end of life wishes, and physical adjustments to their home to make it more accessible. They also anticipate a move to a nearby assisted living facility should living at home no longer be possible.
Maia co-directed the internationally renowned San Miguel Writers’ Conference (2014-2020) and founded the San Miguel Poetry & Prose Cafés while launching "Wild Muse Show Up & Write!" workshops offering inspiration and a supportive environment to several hundred aspiring authors.
Wyman, an ordained Unitarian Universalist clergyman, brought his 50+ years of ministerial service to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Miguel. He previously served congregations in Charlotte and Greensboro (NC), Pensacola (FL), and York (PA). He spent eight years founding the nonprofit Hospice of Greensboro, serving as the first elected president of the board.

Querida Comunidad,
Durante más de una década, Maia y Wyman lo han dado todo a la comunidad de San Miguel de Allende, México. Ahora, Maia tiene cáncer en etapa 4 (tres tumores espinales inoperables) y Wyman tiene Parkinson en etapa 5. Después de seis meses en Charlottesville, VA, con su hijo Landon y su familia, decidieron regresar a San Miguel para vivir lo que probablemente será su último año.
Wyman ahora necesita ayuda diaria con todo, desde caminar hasta comer, debido a su avanzado Parkinson. Los tratamientos de Maia y el estado de su columna la han dejado debilitada y ya no puede cuidar físicamente de Wyman.
Maia fue voluntaria en la Sala Literaria San Miguel durante más de una década y codirigió el internacionalmente reconocido Festival de Escritores en San Miguel 2014-2020. También fundó San Miguel Poetry & Prose Cafés en 2015 y 2017, al tiempo que lanzó los talleres Wild Muse Show Up & Write que ofrecen inspiración y un entorno de apoyo a varios cientos de aspirantes a escritores.
Lamentablemente, la evolución en la enfermedad de ambos los deja enfrentando cargas financieras que requieren recursos más allá de sus expectativas, lo que se suma a sus ya graves preocupaciones. Hemos creado esta recaudación de fondos para brindar el alivio financiero que tanto necesitan.

Necesitan nuestra ayuda con el pago al personal que ayuda a Wyman muchas horas al día y durante emergencias, con la entrega de alimentos porque ya no pueden cocinar, con los honorarios legales para cubrir sus deseos al final de sus vidas y con los ajustes físicos en su hogar para hacerlo más cómodo y accesible. También anticipan un traslado a un centro de vida asistida cercano en caso de que ya no les sea posible vivir en su casa.
Wyman, clérigo universalista unido ordenado, aportó su servicio ministerial de más de 50 años a la Comunidad Unitaria Universalista de San Miguel. Anteriormente sirvió en congregaciones en Charlotte y Greensboro (NC), Pensacola (FL) y York (PA). Pasó ocho años fundando la organización sin fines de lucro Hospice of Greensboro, y fue el primer presidente electo de la junta.
